The 18 Best Beach Bars In The South
Southern Living Names Shaggy’s in a List of
18 Iconic Beach Bars in the South!
“Shaggy’s has long been a favorite of Sun Herald readers, with the restaurant being listed among Coast Restaurants having the best burger, margaritas, and outdoor dining in various polls. It also scored highly in a reader ranking of best restaurants. The Mississippi Coast hotspot was the only local spot among the magazine’s honorees, which came from seven states ranging as far north as Maryland and as far west as Texas. Beach bars in Georgia and Missouri were also among the honorees.” – The Sun Herald
“If you visit the Mississippi Gulf Coast regularly, chances are you’ve stopped in the Pass Christian Harbor for a beer, mahi mahi tacos or a shrimp po-boy at Shaggy’s. The menu adds Southern flair to coastal fare, with dishes like seafood fries, beach balls (fried mashed potatoes), stuffed flounder and a yellowfin tuna bowl popular among locals and tourists. And now, Southern Living has taken notice of the local chain. The magazine named Shaggy’s in the Pass as one of the best beach bars in the South.” – NOLA.com
Ron Ladner founded Shaggy’s in the summer of 2007 to provide dining in Pass Christian after Hurricane Katrina devastated the beach town two years prior. The open-air dining concept proved to be extremely successful, leading Ladner and his business partner Rimmer Covington Jr. to expand and open four more Shaggy’s locations along the water in Gulfport, Biloxi, Brandon and Pensacola.
