Shaggy’s Thanksgiving Food Drive Feeds 1,000 Families Pic 2

The Shaggy’s Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, which kicked off on November 4 at its three restaurant locations – Pass Christian Harbor, Biloxi Beach & Pensacola Beach – has yielded over 6,000 food items, to feed 1,000 local families.

Shaggy’s Restaurants offered a 10% discount to anyone who brought in $5 or more of food items. “I was pleasantly shocked with the final count,” says Ron Ladner, Shaggy’s Founder. “Although we offered a discount, hundreds of our guests were inspired by our staff and our cause, and simply gave cash, with no expectation of anything in return. We want to thank our customers for their support and motivation to be part of something special,” Ladner said.

“This year, for the first time, we set our goal at the beginning of the campaign, and tracked our progress with graphs to keep us motivated. Our goal was 2,000 items, and we smashed this goal with 6,000 items,” said Ladner.  “And to know that we made Thanksgiving possible for so many people…well, this is what Thanksgiving is all about for us at Shaggy’s.”

“Most of our guests didn’t know about the food drive until they arrived at the restaurant, so if they wanted to donate cash, we simply offered to shop for them. And we did lots of shopping,” says Dolly Fayard, General Manager of the Pass Christian restaurant. “I can’t express how proud I am of my staff; they put their hearts into this, it was a great effort, and we’re proud of what we all accomplished together.”

“I think this is a great indication of the Shaggy’s culture to go the extra mile to help those in need,” said Ladner., “It was nice to see every single employee get behind this effort, with a great deal of passion.”

“We have the greatest customers in the world,” says Khara Whitman, Shaggy’s Director of Restaurants. “It was so uplifting to see how excited they were to make a difference” she adds. “They were seriously on board and it helped to inspire us.”

All donated items from Shaggy’s Pass Christian were donated to Saint Vincent De Paul; Shaggy’s Biloxi Beach collections were donated to Feed My Sheep; and Shaggy’s Pensacola Beach collections were donated to the Santa Rosa Kids House.

“Now, we will kick off our Toy Drive,” says Ladner. “We hope to have a repeat showing.”
